Two Communist New People’s Army Terrorist (CNT) members were killed during an encounter with government troops in Panganiban, Catanduanes on Sunday, 22 September.

Troops from the 83rd Infantry Battalion and Police Mobile Force Company were conducting combat operations in Barangay Taopon when they encountered at least seven CNT at about 1:20 a.m. and a 10-minute firefight ensued, according to a report from the Army’s 9th Infantry Division Public Affairs Office based in Camp Elias Angeles, San Jose, Pili, Camarines Sur.

During clearing operations, troops found the bodies of two CNT and recovered an AR15 rifle.

Joint Task Force Bicolandia chief Major General Fernando Trinidad said their intensified combat operations against CNT aims to prevent them from conducting extortion and other illegal activities in Bicol communities.
