Seven Filipinos in Maldives were among the victims who lost their houses Saturday evening after a huge fire broke out in a residential area in capital city Malé.

The Department of Foreign Affairs, through the Philippine Embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh, is closely monitoring the aftermath of the massive fire and assured that all Filipinos are safe.

Maldives Independent reported that the fire started in a warehouse stored with chemicals and ripped through apartments on the narrow road in Henveiru ward.

A 49-year-old woman died while more than 400 people were displaced.
