The Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) has started its investigation on the three passenger motorboats that capsized in the Iloilo-Guimaras Strait and killed atleast 31 over the weekend.
Marina will also suspend operations of all motorboats operating along the route, pending review and assessment of the vessels’ safety conditions.
“The Marina continues to remind operators to ensure maritime safety at all times by observing the latest weather forecast, conducting proper risk assessment, and applying control measures, as needed,” an agency statement read.
To cater to the transportation needs of affected passengers, the agency will deploy additional roll-on roll-off (RO-RO) vessels.
The Philippine Coast Guard on Sunday ruled out “squalls” or sudden strong gusts of wind as the cause of the tragedy.
