Senators asked to support Go’s bills

Senator Christopher Lawrence ‘Bong’ Go on Thursday called on his colleagues in the Senate to support his bills, including a measure reinstating the death penalty as punishment for heinous crimes.

Go’s bill entitled “An Act reinstating the death penalty for certain heinous crimes involving dangerous drugs and plunder” seeks to promote peace and order in the country and support the Duterte administration’s campaign against illegal drugs, criminality and corruption.

“Please help me in this bill and if you have other suggestion on how to help the government and President Duterte. The President is already exasperated in fighting and solving corruption in government. Almost everyday, every week, we receive so many reports (on corruption and drugs),” said Go.

“Let’s end corruption in government,” Go added

The former Special Assistant to the President also asked for support in passing the Malasakit Center Act of 2019 which aims to institutionalize the establishment of Malasakit Centers in more provinces and strategic urban centers in the country.

“My plan is to institutionalize this so even if Duterte is no longer the president, the Malasakit Centers will continue,” he said.

Go also asked his colleagues to support his other bills, including Senate Bill No. 206 amending the Solo Parents’ Welfare Act of 2000 to increase the benefits for solo parents; the proposed Barangay Health Workers Act of 2019 that provides Barangay health workers benefits and security of tenure; and a bill postponing the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in May 2020 to October 2022 to give village officials ample time to finish their respective programs and projects.

Meanwhile, Go assured he will prioritize his job as a legislator and maintain a no-conflict relationship with the President.

“Uunahin ko ang trabaho ko bilang Senador. Pinili po ako ng mamamayan bilang Senador kaya prayoridad ko po ito. Subalit in my own personal capacity, hindi ko iiwanan si Pangulong Duterte, pangako ko po ito sa kaniya,” Go stated.

“Seven days a week, three days for session and at least one day for committee hearings will be my priorities as a senator. The other three days I will devote to the people. I will not rest. I will accompany President Duterte and if he needs my help I will be with him in helping Filipinos,” said Go.

As the most trusted former aide of the President, Go said he and Duterte are committed to achieving positive genuine change for all Filipinos.
