Law on discounted fare signed

Transport service covered by a contract like a school bus or tourist shuttle service vehicles are exempted from giving discounted fare to student passengers.

Students are in for more perks as President Duterte signed a law approving student fare discount on all public transportation.

Under the Student Fare Discount Act, students are entitled to a 20 percent fare discount on all transportation  service, including aircraft and ships, upon presenting his or her school ID or an up-to-date enrollment form.

School, shuttle and tourist service vehicle as well as any similar transport service covered by contract or charter agreement are exempted from the discount.

Meanwhile, students, persons with disability, senior citizens and active police, soldier and coast guard will be exempted from paying terminal fee in all public ports starting Monday, 15 July 2019, the Department of Transportation (DoTr) said.

The free terminal fee is an initiative of the Philippine Ports Authority in line with the instruction of DoTr Secretary Arthur Tugade to aid students and their families.
