Fixing governance issues key to credit upgrade

For the country to attain sterling A investment grade, fundamental governance issues must be fixed, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Deputy Governor Diwa Guinigundo said on Monday.

“The consequent upgrade to a single A or a single A-, start with a sterling A credit performance. It is an outcome, a consequence of the efforts to address those fundamental issues of governance, those issues of cost of doing business, sustainability of economic reforms etc.,” Guinigundo explained during the pre-SONA (state of the nation address) economic and infrastructure forum held at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City on Monday.

Guinigundo added that a roadmap that will enable the government to address key issues is vital for the country to achieve and attain a sustainable high-level economic growth.
