Rain or Shine needed five extra minutes to beat Columbian Dyip, 88-86, and snap a four-game losing streak in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup on Sunday at the Batangas City Coliseum in Batangas City.
Rey Nambatac delivered the game-winner for the Elasto Painters, a tough drive over Dyip import Lester Prosper with 2.6 ticks left in overtime, en route to evening their win-loss mark to 3-3.
Columbian Dyip, which dropped to 1-6, did not have a clean look for a possible game-tying basket in its next possession as time expired.
Denzel Bowles tallied a triple-double performance for Rain or Shine with 29 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists but shot 7-of-21 from the free throw line.
“We fight. We’re very upset last game and it’s almost a deja vu but we fought through and it was a great win,” said Bowles, who played through pain because of stomach virus.
Nambatac added 10 points but none bigger his marginal basket as he caught a perfect inbound pass from Gabe Norwood.
Prosper led Dyip with 26 points and 15 rebounds while Rashawn McCarthy, who sent the game in overtime with a difficult triple at the corner for an 81-all score, added 15 points and seven boards for the team of coach John Cardel.
