Reiterating her support on President Rodrigo Duterte’s response on the collision near the Recto Bank, House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo said that the Chief Executive wanted to be friends with China and promote national interest.
“I already said in general that on this matter, I support President Duterte because he knows what he is doing,” Arroyo said in an ambush interview in the House of Representatives.
“He wants to be friends with China and of course he is promoting the national interest, which is also my attitude,” the former president said adding that she will fully support Duterte “whatever his action is.”
In a previous interview, Arroyo said that Duterte is only taking the “right approach” in dealing with the hit-and-run incident that happened in Recto Bank abandoning 22 fishermen at the sea.
She said that the Philippine government has to take “calibrated response and be as civil as they have to be” which she consider as the “right approach.”
