Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP)-Laban has appointed Pampanga Rep. Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales Jr. (Third District) as interim national executive vice president.
Gonzales took his oath before PDP-Laban party president and re-elected Senator Koko Pimentel on Monday.

Gonzales, one of three candidates for House Speaker, will replace lawyer Jorge Bernardo.
“Pampanga Rep. Cong. Dong Gonzales will be taking a more active role in running the day to day affairs of the ruling party. He will also ensure that the legislative priorities of the party are passed in the House of Representatives,” PDP spokesperson Ron Munsayac said in a statement.
“Cong. Dong Gonzales is also the Party’s Regional President for Central Luzon (R3) and the Party’s Deputy Campaign Manager during the recently concluded and successful 2019 NLE.”
Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco and Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez (First District), a former Speaker, are the other PDP bets for the Lower House top post.
Last week, after being asked by Sen. Manny Pacquiao to choose the party’s official candidate, President Rodrigo Duterte said he will not meddle with PDP’s decision.
