A Facebook post led to the arrest of a screening officer of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 on Wednesday following a theft complaint by a Hong Kong national.
The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) Surveillance and Screening Department (SSD) led by Inspector Jesus Ducusin arrested Nissan Abellon Villarino whom Jackie Freeman Yuen accused of forcibly taking his friend’s two HK$1,000 bills.
Villarino eventually returned the money but only after Yuen’s other friends, who are lawyers, demanded it.
According to Yuen’s FB post, he and his friends were going back to Hong Kong via Philippine Airlines on the afternoon of 10 June when they encountered Villarino of the Office for Transportation Security (OTS).
At the final security check, Villarino pulled aside one of Yuen’s friend, checked his backpack and got the bills from a wallet without informing them why.
Pressed for time, Yuen and his group did not file a complaint anymore and instead communicated with Philippine airport officials via FB upon their arrival in Hong Kong.
In a written statement, Villarino admitted taking the money and has since been removed from his OTS post even as administrative charges have been filed against him.
Yuen is also expected to file a complaint with the Philippine Consulate in Hong Kong.
