President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday morning made a surprise inspection at the NAIA Terminal 2 after receiving reports of several flight disruptions over the weekend, the latest of which is the four-hour delay on Sunday night due to a red lightning alert.
According to Malacañang, the President was briefed by a Philippine Airlines (PAL) manager and a NAIA Terminal 2 duty manager regarding actions being undertaken to address and normalize the situation.
Mr. Duterte also touched on how flight aberrations could be minimized and tasked the Department of Transportation (DoTR) to employ long-term solutions to the problem.
He likewise talked to some affected passengers and extended the government’s apology for their troubles and vowed to come up with a remedy at the soonest possible time.
The Chief Executive was accompanied by Manila International Airport Authority general manager Ed Monreal, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines director general Capt. Jim Sydiongco, Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez and Davao businessman Sammy Uy.
