PNPA cadet dies due to heatstroke

A fourth class cadet at the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) passed away Wednesday morning after suffering from heatstroke during a training exercise in Silang, Cavite.

Identified as Al-Rasheed Macadato, the 21-year-old cadet reportedly fell while jogging at the PNPA Oval Tuesday afternoon. He was immediately brought to the dispensary and was later transferred to QualiMed Hospital in Sta. Rosa, Laguna where he died the next morning.

PNPA stated that Macadato was undergoing same basic training as last year but the sweltering heat may have affected him and other cadets.

PNPA added that squad leaders require the cadets to drink at least 12 glasses of water during training and denied the claims that Macadato died due to hazing.

Police Brig. Gen. Jose Chiquito Malayo, director of PNPA, said they will provide assistance to Macadato’s family and will investigate if there were lapses in the training program.
