Comelec takes action on ‘cheating’ video

Comelec Spokesman James Jimenez

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday urged the uploader of a viral video circulating on social media which showed an unidentified individual seeming to shade multiple ballots in Lanao del Sur to surface and file a complaint against the alleged ‘cheater.’

In a statement, Comelec spokesman James Jimenez, while the poll body is aware of the existence of the video no concrete details were given on the video’s context and urged whoever owns the video to show up and file a complaint.

“I can confirm the existence of the video but little else, if you look at the video even internally there is little to tell you who is doing the shading… what she is in the context of election and so on. We also don’t know who the uploader is, we don’t know where did it came from. Everything that we know about it comes from the accompanying caption,” said Jimenez.

“We encourage whoever has information on this video to come forward and file a complaint, if it’s the original uploader themselves much better,” he added.

The poll official said they will also be requesting assistance from the social media communities and even from the authorities to take a look and provide further details on the said video and they will not not dismiss it as a fake.

“So internally, internal to the video is very little that we can tell so we will be requesting assistance from the FB and perhaps refer it to the appropriate authorities for forensic analysis, but were not dismissing it as fake, were not ready to make that determination yet until we know the details of the video,” said Jimenez.
