Supporters of detained Quezon City mayoral candidate Bingbong Crisologo massed outside Camp Karingal Sunday night in a show of force.
The supporters chanted “Bingbong, Bingbong” in an apparent call for the release of Crisologo who is also the representative of Quezon City’s 1st District.
The Quezon City Police Office, earlier, arrested Crisologo for alleged obstruction of justice, unjust vexation, resisting arrest and assault on a person of authority after he prevented police officers from accosting his staff for alleged vote buying.
Crisologo, who was detained along with his son, denied the charges and said his staff were not doing anything illegal.
Quezon City Police District chief Brigadier General Joselito Esquivel announced in a press conference after the arrest that Crisologo violated provisions of the Omnibus Election Code.
Crisologo is running for mayor under the PDP-Laban party with Jopet Sison as his running mate. His rivals are Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte of Hugpong ng Pagbabago and Ismael Mathay III of KDP.
