Solo moms in focus

ACTRESS Jodi Sta. Maria has single-handedly raised her 13-year-old son, Thirdy.

Catch actress Jodi Sta. Maria as she celebrates mom’s day at “MOMentous: A Memorable Mother’s Day at the Araneta Center” on 12 May at the Gateway Mall activity area. Jodi will perform a special number and join a cooking demo facilitated by Professional Academy for Culinary Education.

The event aims to educate mothers, especially solo moms like Jodi, who want to augment their income by starting their own food business.

Jodi, who is well known for her role as Maya in the hit TV series Be Careful with My Heart, currently stars as Fina, a mother searching for her abducted child, in the teleserye Sino ang Maysala? Mea Culpa. She is the loving mother of 13-year-old Thirdy in real life.

This is the first time the center is focusing on empowering single moms. Part of the activities for this weekend is a talk on “The Solo Parent Act of 2000.” Carina Javier, president of Federation of Solo Parents in Luzvimin Inc.-United Solo Parents of the Philippines (FUSPP) will discuss the rights of single parents at the Gateway Mall.

In addition, participating moms will also get free skin analysis, hair styling and foot and hand massage. “Solo Mom’s Bazaar,” which will showcase products like organic rice and coffee, will then be held at the Gateway Mall from 12 to 18 May as part of Araneta Center’s CSR activity in partnership with FUSPP.
