The influential Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) religious sect released on Tuesday the senatorial candidates that will get its support for the coming 2019 midterm elections.
Nine candidates from the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) party reportedly got the nod from the INC, namely former Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Ronald dela Rosa, reelectionist senators Sonny Angara and Cynthia Villar, Deputy Speaker and Taguig City Rep. Pia Cayetano, former presidential adviser on political affairs Francis Tolentino, Ilocos governor Imee Marcos and former senators Jinggoy Estrada and Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr.
Reports also said that the INC gave its blessings to independent re-electionist Senators Grace Poe and Nancy Binay and former Sen. Lito Lapid.
Majority of the candidates — if not all — were among those who occupied the top 12 spots in various popularity surveys.
The religious group is known for its bloc voting which could be a huge factor in Monday’s tightly contested senatorial race.
