Duterte against Sara as president

President Rodrigo Duterte frowned at the possibility of his daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio taking over the highest position in the land once he steps down in 2022.

Speaking at the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino campaign rally in Bacolod City last Thursday night, the President said he will advise his eldest child to “lay off” any possibility of assuming the presidency.

“I will advise her to lay off. If I know Inday, she won’t run for president,” Duterte said in his speech.

“Inday is wise. She just wants to shake the tree and get rid of the dry leaves and everything. I won’t allow her to run,” he added.

Talks have been persistent that the feisty, outspoken, and eldest of the Chief Executive’s children is being groomed to be the next occupant of Malacanang.

The President also said he is against his daughter becoming chief executive someday as it is a “thankless job.”

“You know, just to tell you the truth and I apologize for saying this, it does not pay. You get tired, you do all the things you have done, an there are things that you have to endure because you are there,” he said.

“You get insulted, you get insulted. All that, even if you know they are not true,” he added.

As the leader of the administration-backed regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), Duterte-Carpio almost singlehandedly rallied support for its preferred candidates who have been consistently placing high in surveys.

She has also been dubbed as the country’s “next president,” a tag she politely asked her supporters to drop as this has made her prone to attacks by those believed to be targeting the presidency a little over three years from now.

“What I’m doing is just to help the President get through the remaining three years of his administration,” Duterte-Carpio was quoted as saying in one of HNP’s recent provincial sorties.
