Senatorial candidate Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go called the late Moro Islamic Liberation Front vice chairman Ghazali Jaafar a “friend and ally” in promoting peace in Mindanao as he expressed condolences for the latter’s passing on Wednesday.
“Tayo po ay nalulungkot at nakikiramay sa pamilya at mga mahal sa buhay ng isa sa mga malapit nating kaibigan at kaalyado sa pagsusulong ng kapayapaan sa bansa partikular sa Mindanao na si MILF Vice Chairman Ghazali Jaafar,” said Go.
The former Special Assistant to the President said Jaafar was fighting an illness while working to achieve peace in the region.
“Nagpapasalamat din po ako sa kontribusyon ni Ginoong Jaafar na tinawag ng palasyo na warrior of peace sa pagsusulong ng kapayapaan at malaking tulong po ang naimbag nito sa Bangsamoro Transition Commission o BTC,” said Go.
He also thanked Jaafar for voluntarily supporting his candidacy
Jaafar served as chairman of the MILF peace negotiating panel from 1996 to 1997. He was also the first vice chairman of the MILF Central Committee and head of the MILF for Political Affairs.
