Davao City mayor and Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) chairman Sara Duterte-Carpio came to the defense of former Special Assistant to the President and senatorial aspirant Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go amid the allegations of opposition senatorial aspirant Gary Alejano that Go is using government funds for his own senatorial bid.
In a statement on Tuesday, Duterte-Carpio said that she is “very sure” that the former Special Assistant to the President is not using government funds in his senatorial campaign.
“I’m sure if he’s made to answer the source ng funds from his T-shirts, I’m sure it will not be from government funds,” said President Rodrigo Duterte’s daughter.
This follows after Alejano accused Go of distributing campaign shirts during a public assembly attended by barangay officials and claimed that government funds were used during the event.
“I can assure you that the funds used for the T-shirts were not government funds,” said Duterte-Carpio.
President Duterte himself has repeatedly said that no state resources would be used for or by any candidate during the campaign period of the May midterm elections.
