Murder case vs De Sagun dismissed

The Department of Justice (DoJ) on Tuesday confirmed that charges of murder and frustrated murder filed against Trece Martires Mayor Melandres de Sagun and Ronel Bersamina in connection with the killing of Vice Mayor Alex Lubigan was dismissed.

DoJ undersecretary and spokesman Mark Perete, in a statement, said that the case was resolved and the resolution was released last week that dismissed the case of De Sagun and Bersamina.

However, Perete noted that while the case was already resolved, it indicted Ariel Paiton for two counts of murder and Lawrence Arca alias Umbe as accessory to the crime, according to the National Prosecution Service.

The Cavite police last year filed murder and frustrated murder charges against De Sagun in connection with the killing of Lubigan last July.
