Lone District of Iligan City Rep. Frederick W. Siao said Wednesday Congress’ approval of House Bill 8885 or Student Fare Discount Bill plugs the loophole in the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board’s memorandum ordering the discount.
“The intent of the proposed Student Fare Discount Act is to clearly entitle every student in the country the 20 percent transport fare discount on all days the student is enrolled, including weekends and holidays, on all forms of transport, except the chartered ones,” said Siao.
Siao said many public transportation drivers refuse to give the discount to students on weekdays arguing that it applies only during schooldays.
“As one of the principal authors of this measure, I hope this bill becomes law by this coming summer, by the time of the graduation of the students this school year 2018-2019,” he said.
“Malaking pakinabang ang fare discount sa mga estudyanteng umuuwi sa probinsya tuwing bakasyon o holidays at lumuluwas pabalik sa eskwelahan sakay ng bus, barko, at eroplano. For students and their families-all of whom are on tight budgets-this bill helps partially offset the impact of inflation,” he added.
