Aangat Tayo Party list Rep. Harlin Neil Abayon III on Wednesday urged public utility vehicles, transport terminals, shopping malls and workplaces to help contain the spread of measles in Metro Manila.
“Metro Manila happens to be the transport and business hub of the entire country, so the transport sector and the retail establishments must have an active role in containing the measles outbreak, so the disease will not spread out to the provinces,” said Abayon, who is also a registered nurse, as the Department of Health confirmed an outbreak of the disease in the capital.
Abayon also asked the Department of Health to publicly disclose the barangays and neighborhoods in Metro Manila and other places where there are confirmed cases of measles, so that the local government officials concerned will be able to take appropriate measures to prevent the further spread of the highly-contagious and potentially fatal disease.
“Mayors and barangay leaders must be informed of where these measles cases are spreading to let them extend the needed health care services at their disposal,” Abayon said.
The congressman-nurse also said, “Please avoid contact with people who are coughing, seem to be having a fever, and has skin rashes, especially when riding public utility vehicles or going to public places like shopping malls, bus terminals, and transport hubs.
