Two DAR officials on chopping block

President Rodrigo Duterte announced on Tuesday that he will fire two government officials over an “application” that has been delayed for years.

Duterte made the statement during the groundbreaking of a hospital in Malabon, saying that he will ax two officials from the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) for grounds of corruption.

“I will remove two officials from DAR,” said Duterte in an ambush interview after his speech. “An application that was long delayed, two years in their office… That is corruption to me. Two years?” Duterte said.

“I will ask them to resign or else I will file charges against them and I will see to it that they will get their comeuppance,” he added.

However, the President did not disclose the names of the officials.

“From the looks of it, the name is immaterial. When you have papers with you, and if you have them return a number of times, it’s corruption,” said Duterte. “That’s the reason why there’s an 8888, you just text and let us know and I will ask.”
