Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio will be the Acting Chief Justice as Chief Justice Teresita de Castro’s retires Monday, according to Supreme Court Spokesperson Atty. Ma. Victoria Guerra.
De Castro retires on Monday, 8 October, after only 41 days as chief magistrate, the shortest term for the SC leadership post.
Carpio, 68, is the most senior among the justices. He and Associate Justices Diosdado Peralta, Lucas Bersamin, Mariano Del Castillo, and Estela Perlas-Bernabe have been automatically nominated by the Judicial and Bar Council to succeed De Castro.
However, the nominees will have to submit a letter of conforme/acceptance and comply with all documentary requirements by deadline on 15 October.
