The number of dengue cases in Palawan rose to 2,026 this year after 798 new cases were reported in the first week of September.
There were 52 new cases in Puerto Princesa City during the period as it registered the highest number of cases at 658 as of last week, Al Patrick Aquino, Nurse III at the Department of Health’s (DoH) vector-borne disease unit, said on Wednesday.
There were many cases also in the towns of Taytay, Narra, Brooke’s Point, Bataraza, and El Nido, said Aquino.
There seven dengue deaths in Puerto Princesa City, according to Aquino. Province-wide, there were eight deaths for a total of 15 deaths.
The figure represents half of the 29 mortality recorded in Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan (Mimaropa) region, Aquino said.
Puerto Princesa registered the highest morbidity week with its 35 reported dengue cases in the first week of the month.
“Malamang po pataas pa rin ‘yang mga cases dahil sa patuloy na pag-ulan (Cases may still rise due to continuous rains),” he said, according to PNA.
