Iran frustrates Gilas, 81-73

Gilas Pilipinas lost to Iran, 73-81, in its first game of the second round of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers at the Azady Gym in Tehran Thursday night (Manila time).

After a close game in the first three quarters, Iran broke away in the last quarter as the Filipinos were not hitting their mark.

Gilas was last closest to Iran at just four points behind, 62-66, after Raymond Almazan split his free-throw with 8:03 remaining in the game.

Christian Standhardinger led the national team with 28 points, including two freethrows with 58 seconds left that cut the gap to 10, 81-71.
