No less than Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) Chairman Emeritus Manny V. Pangilinan late last night said coach Yeng Guiao will stay in the national team for good.

Guiao coached the Nationals to a fifth place finish in the recent Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia and will start with a different set of what are now known as the ‘Gilastopainters’ for the second round of the 2019 Fiba World Cup Asian Qualifiers next week.

Reyes is serving a suspension imposed by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) for instigating the melee that transpired between the Philippines and Australia in a World Cup Window in Bulacan last July.

It is likely Guiao will be handed the Gilas job permanently, sources said.

“What do you think?” Pangilinan asked members of the media after watching his flagship team T’NT beat Columbian Dyip, 118-114, Saturday night at the Araneta Coliseum.

“I think so too. I’m thinking what you’re thinking. I think so, too,” he added.

“I must say that Coach Yeng was a revelation. It was a Jeckyl and Hyde transformation. How we managed to bring the team together. From different personalities, different teams and how Jordan Clarkson also blended with the team,” he said.

“Coach Yeng has done a magnificent job,” Pangilinan said.
