Mindanao railway construction starts in January


The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that Phase 1 of the Mindanao Railway Project (Tagum-Davao-Digos segment) will begin its construction by January 2019.

Upon completion in 2021, travel time from Tagum City, Davao del Norte to Digos City, Davao del Sur, will be reduced from 3.5 hours to only 1.3 hours.

According to the DOTr, the 102-kilometer railway can serve 134,060 passengers daily on its first year. It will have eight stations in Tagum City, Carmen, and Panabo City in Davao del Norte; Mudiang, central Davao, and Toril in Davao City; and Sta. Cruz and Digos City in Davao del Sur.
