Many Metro Manila water customers are unaware that they are entitled to a free siphoning of their septic tank every five years from water concessionaires Maynilad and Manila Water.
Sen. Cynthia Villar, at a hearing on Monday, said the septic tank cleaning charge is covered by the enviromental fee paid by customers of the two water service providers.
So those who do not know it spend more for hiring cleaners of septic vaults like Malabanan.
In effect, Maynilad and Manila Water are passing the “dirty job” and its cost to their unsuspecting customers.
Villar even smelled a rat in the sewer line project of Maynilad and Manila Water.
The two firms admitted in the hearing that the project is only 14 percent complete and will take until 2037 to finish. Does that mean Maynilad and Manila Water will continue to shortchange customers for another 19 years?
The United Filipino Consumers and Commuters and the Water for All Refund Movement claimed that the two water concessionaires are only installing a combined water-sewerage-drainage system which could pose health risks in the long run.
Taking advantage of customers doesn’t speak well for Maynilad and Manila Water or more accurately doesn’t smell good for these two companies.
