The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Tuesday agreed on a plan to eradicate drug smuggling in the country’s coasts.
Officials of the three agencies signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) that tightens up the security and inspections in every seaport in the country.
Under the MOA, the PDEA will lead the overall investigation, arrest of suspects and seizure of drugs. It will also train MARINA personnel in drug operations.
The agreement between the PDEA and PCG, on the other hand, is to stretch security against drug smuggling and to come up with needed strategy to overcome the drug trade.
In addition, the three agencies agreed to have a consistent and regular consultations and meetings for better planning and information exchange. Dean Carlo Ventura
