Whether or not President Rodrigo Duterte endorses Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque’s candidacy for next year’s senatorial elections, the latter is leaving to God or the Caviteños the decision.
“We leave that [decision] to God po because only God can tell us what will happen to our lives. And possibly, the people of Cavite will also decide,” Roque said in a press briefing in Indang, Cavite on Tuesday when asked of his plans for the mid-term elections.
Roque also said he cannot afford to run as a senator and will concentrate first on being the “best spokesman to the president he could be.”
Roque is among the ruling party members being considered for the 2019 senatorial slate of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan, which is chaired by Duterte.
Also being considered for the PDP-Laban senatorial slate are Presidential Communications and Operations Office Assistant Secretary Margaux “Mocha” Uson; House legislators Karlo Nograles, Geraldine Roman, and Albee Benitez; and former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chair Francis Tolentino.
Former senate president Aquilino Pimentel, president of PDP-Laban, said the party still has no official senatorial candidates.
In a recent survey conducted by Pulse Asia, Roque appeared on a list of potential senatorial candidates getting a 64 percent awareness from the respondents. However, only 7.9 percent of respondents said they will vote for him resulting in a ranking of 25th to 33rd place in the list of winning senatorial bets. Dean Carlo Ventura
