REACTION TO THE FIBA MATCH BETWEEN THE PHILIPPINES AND AUSTRALIA AT THE PHILIPPINE ARENA ON JULY 2, 2018

We respect the decisions of the FIBA referees. Basketball is a game we all love. I was at the Philippine Arena when it happened. I witnessed that unfortunate incident, which robbed all of us of the opportunity to be a part of a competitive game.

The referees were circumspect. In the interest of truth and fairness, they viewed all the footage on the court and even in the outside broadcast van.

They even decided to keep the game going until it could no longer be played.

The controversy of this game does not end tonight.

It is but reasonable to expect FIBA, the international governing body of basketball, and the SBP, the Philippines governing body for basketball, to investigate and review this game.

It is quite probable there will be sanctions against all who erred in their judgment during the game.

As the host country, national honor is also at stake. There were on both sides, some who let their emotion get the better of them and that was most unfortunate and disappointing.

I do not discount the possibility of a much deeper and thorough investigation of this incident. (END)
