THE average amount of rain that falls in Quezon City in the month of June is 318 millimeters, but more than half of this volume fell in the area over the weekend, according to weather bureau PAGASA.

In Manila, the average June rainfall is 253 millimeters but the city received 211 millimeters from June 8 to 10, almost a month’s volume of rain.

The torrential rains were caused by the enhanced southwest monsoon, which was pulled by the typhoon Domeng while it was exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility in a northerly path.

Aside from Metro Manila, heavy rains and flooding were forecast in Bataan, Zambales, Pangasinan, Benguet and Ilocos provinces.
