A TOTAL 1,291 people braved continuous rains and trooped to the Independence Day job fair at the Rizal Park in Manila on Tuesday.
Of the 789 male jobseekers and 502 women job applicants, 43 males and 43 females were hired on the spot for local jobs, the Department of Labor and Employment said.
One of them, Christina Malvas, 20, from Quezon City, was hired as a promo specialist.
Malvas, a mother to a two-year-old child, said it was her first time to apply in a job fair and luckily, she was hired.
“I need a job for my baby. I’m happy I was hired,” she said.
The data showed that 273 applicants were qualified — 146 men and 125 women — for local employment. Two women were qualified for overseas jobs.
A total of 73 employers participated in the Metro Manila event, 55 of them offering jobs in the country and 18 were employing workers for abroad.
Some 20 other job and business fairs were simultaneously held across the country in commemoration of the country’s 120th Independence Day.
