THE Philippine men’s team scored an upset win over third-seeded Russia, 19-12, to close its campaign in the 2018 FIBA 3×3 Basketball World Cup at the Philippine Arena on Monday.
The 19th-seeded Gilas composed of Troy Rosario, Stanley Pringle, Roger Pogoy and Christian Standhardinger set aside their one-point loss to Canada earlier that prevented them from advancing to the quarterfinal round zooming to a 5-1 lead and never looked back en route to a 2-2 win-loss record in Pool C that also included Mongolia and Brazil.
The Gilas’ other win was over Brazil, 15-7. They then lost to Mongolia, 21-17, and Canada, 20-19.
The loss was Russia’s third in four outings.
Pringle topscored for Gilas with 9 points while Rosario contributed 8 and Pogoy 2. Standhardinger was scoreless. Victor Pavlenko led Russia with 6 points.
