PRESIDENTIAL Spokesperson Harry Roque clarified that President Duterte is not biased against women, citing the President’s recent appointees to three key positions in the government being all women.

“Wala pong bias si President laban sa kababaihan,” Roque told Orly Mercado in the latters’ morning program ‘All Ready’ over DWFM on Friday.

Roque cited in the same morning program the three personalities appointed by the President recently. These were Virginia Nazarrea Orogo who was named acting secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD),

Court of Appeals Justice Socorro Inting as commissioner of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), and Bernadette Romulo-Puyat whom the President named to head the Tourism department.

“Malinaw po na iyong mga na-a-appoint po niya nitong mga nakalipas na araw puro kababaihan. So meaning, wala pong bias si Presidente laban sa kababaihan,” stressed Roque.

Roque added that if there are qualified women applicants for the position of Chief Justice and Ombudsman, they could also be considered subject to the process being undertaken by the Judicial Bar Council which nominates applicants.

Regarding the President’s preference to the next CJ and Ombudsman, Roque said the President does not want a politician, especially for the position of Ombudsman.

“Ayaw niya ng politiko sa Ombudsman, kasi gusto niya ipatupad lang iyong batas ‘no, ayaw niya iyong maraming utang na loob, ayaw niyang naaareglo, iyong mga ganoon ‘no. So sa akin po tama din naman iyong tact niya na iyon na huwag magtalaga ng politiko bilang Ombudsman,” said Roque.
