PRESIDENTIAL spokesman Harry Roque said today that the deployment ban of skilled and semi-skilled overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to Kuwait has been lifted effective May 15, said a report by ABS-CBN.
The lifting of the ban is seen as an effect of a memorandum of understanding recently signed by the governments of the Philippines and Kuwait to provide more protection for OFWs against abusive employers.
President Duterte imposed the deployment ban in response to numerous incidents of OFWs dying under mysterious circumstances in Kuwait.
The MOU also eased tension between two countries arising from the “rescue” of Philippine embassy personnel of several OFWs.
