MEMBERS of the Makabayan Bloc today assails the Bureau of Immigration (BI) for reportedly taking into custody for supposed deportation proceedings Sister Patricia Fox, an Australian nun and a long time human rights advocate campaigning particularly for the welfare of Filipino peasants since the ’70s.
In an urgent message sent by the Unyon ng mga Manggagawa sa Agrikultura (UMA), Sr. Pat was taken by two (2) teams of BI agents who went into her house in Project 2, Quezon City. Initial report said that immigration agents supposedly claimed that they were just verifying her papers.
Sr. Pat is now under the custody of the BI’s legal department. The BI wanted to detain and deport her supposedly due to her human rights advocacies, including joining peaceful demonstrations., they said.
