Duterte tells NFA to buy more rice from local farmers

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte ordered the National Food Authority (NFA) to buy more local palay and rice to increase it buffer stock from 15 days to 60 days.

Duterte has asked Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez to release funds for the purpose, according to Agriculture Secretary Manny Pinol.

Pinol also said that Duterte ordered the NFA to buy local palay and rice at the price set by the NFA Council.

NFA will only import rice if the NFA and the farmers fail to agree on the buying price of palay and rice.
