DOT turns to ‘carinderia’ as appetizer for tourists

THE Department of Tourism is making the country a more appetizing destination by offering foreign tourists the taste of local carinderia cuisine.

The campaign dubbed “Buhay Carinderia Redefined” starts with portraying eateries as dining destinations.

“We hope to give the lowly carinderia entirely new meaning, one that is innovative, dynamic and relatable,” said Cesar Montano, COO of Tourism Promotion Board.

The campaign involves visiting carinderias across the country, choosing the best carinderia specialties and showcasing these to the world through social media. One particular focus are the indigenous food of Mindanao, including Maranao cuisine.

Erwan Heusaff will spearhead the exploration of carinderia delicacies in 227 provinces as content creator of “Buhay Carinderia.” The best carinderia flavor will then be assembled
in a grand exposition in November or December.

Buhay Carinderia is inspired by Carinderia Fiesta 2011, a carinderia food fair organized by Marylindbert International Inc.
