HOUSE Deputy Speaker Fredenil Castro came to the defense of his colleagues after Senator Panfilo Lacson called representatives thick-faced for insisting on a constituent assembly to amend the constitution.
“Wala kang karapatan na sabihin yan sapagkat ang taumbayan lamang ang may karapatan na hatulan ang mga kongresista … gaya ng ang may karapatan na hatulan ang mga senador ay ang taumbayan,” Castro was quoted by GMA News as telling Super Radyo dzBB in an interview on Sunday.
Castro also called Lacson’s remarks unparliamentary, inhumane, unprofessional and uneducated.
Castro’s remarks were in response to Lacson’s statements in a press conference on Thursday.
“Kung isang buong constituent assembly yung both houses, wala nang check and balance. Kakainin kami lahat ng boto ng mga kongresista (sa Kamara) ,” said Lacson, according to GMA News. “Kung ganun kakapal yung pagmumukha nila, e ano ang magpe-prevent? Kakapal lalo ang pagmumukha nila kapag nag-holdover na sila.”
Lacson plans to file a resolution convening the Senate as a separate body to amend the constitution. rw: wjg
