ALEX Cabagnot and Arwind Santos struck for the big plays to highlight a big windup that carried San Miguel Beer to an 88-76 win over Talk ‘N Text in PBA Philippine Cup on Saturday at the University of San Agustin in Iloilo.
With the Tropang Texters threatening at 76-74 following Anthony Semerad;s basket with 3:48 left, the Beermen unloaded a telling 12-2 run ignited by Santos’ jumper near the 15-foot line to pick up their third straight triumph in the kickoff conference.
After that Santos basket, Cabagnot, who was left wide open at the right flank, sank a triple to give SMB an 81-74 lead, and send TNT coach Nash Racela suing for a 30-second time-out.
TNT’s Roger Pogoy missed a triple, but the Texters kept the ball possession leading to a Troy Rosario basket, keeping the team in the game, 81-76.
However, the Beermen took timer before Santos delivered a dagger of a triple with 51 seconds left, as SMB sealed the win, 84-76, and sent TNT reeling to its second loss in three outings.
June Mar Fajardo became the game’s best player after finishing with 20 points, six rebounds and three blocks, Marcio Lassiter and Santos added 15 points each while Cabagnot chipped in 11 points.
Rosario finished with 15 points to lead the Tropang Texters who led in the first quarter.
