STAR Hotshots, getting big lift from a trio of gunners, brought down defending champion Rain or Shine, 99-93, Saturday at Batangas City Coliseum.

Paul Lee decked his former team by firing 23 points while import Tony Mitchell came through with 21 points, and the two were also there in the final two minutes of the Petron Saturday special game to keep the Hotshots out of harm’s way after the Elasto Painters rallied from 14 points down.

The Painters had just tied the count at 90-all on two freethrows by Jeff Chan with 2:22 remaining when the Hotshots unleashed a visious finishing kick that broke the backs of the defending champions.

Lee hit a fadeway jumper as Star shattered the deadlock and regained the lead, 92-90, before Mitchell capped the telling windup with a powerful slam that brough the goal post down.

The Hotshots claimed their sixth win in eight games and tied Talk ‘N Text for fourth and fift spots in the standings.

Shawn Taggart and Chan finished with 20 points each for the Painters who fell to seventh place with a 4-4 record. (AC)
