Malacanang confirmed Friday the singer Aiza Seguerra has been appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte to head the National Youth Commission (NYC) and her partner Liza Diño as chair of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).
Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abelal made the confirmation a day after Seguerra broke the news in a TV interview. She said her work starts on Tuesday.
Both Seguerra and Diño campaigned for Duterte’s election. Diño’s father, Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) chairperson Martin Diño, is a member of the president’s political party, PDP-Laban.
Each appointee will head their respective agency for three years. Seguerra will replace Gio Tingson at NYC while Diño will replace Briccio Santos at FDCP.
The NYC, which is under the Office of the Cabinet Secretary, is the government’s sole policy-making body on youth affairs and implements programs that raise awareness on issues affecting the youth.
The FDCP, which is under the Office of the President, is the lead agency that ensures that the economic, cultural and educational aspects of films are effectively represented in the country and abroad.
