THE Sandiganbayan has allowed Janet Lim Napoles to post a P500,000 bail for the plunder case she is facing, but she is not getting out of jail anytime soon.
Napoles has already been convicted by the Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC) and sentence to life imprisonment for the illegal detention of her former right-hand man Benhur Luy.
Also granted bail by the Sandiganbayan’s Fourth Division was Masbate Governor Rizalina Seachon-Lanete inn connection with the alleged misuse of P108.4 million of her pork barrel fund when she was still a congresswoman.
“Wherefore, considering that there is a finding that the evidence of guilt of accused Lanete and accused Napoles is not strong for the reasons cited above, the respective applications for bail of accused Lanete and Napoles are hereby granted,” it said.
As congresswoman of Masbate from 2004-2010, Lanete allegedly allowed P108.4 million of her Priority Development Assistance Fund to be funneled through bogus non-governmental organizations set up by Napoles.
Napoles has other pending plunder cases over the alleged misuse of the PDAF of other lawmakers said to total P10 billion.
Napoles is jailed at the Correction Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City, while Lanete is detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) female dormitory at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig.
